HISTORY
LAYTONS CHAMBERS IS FOUNDED AND MANAGED BY HANNAH MICHELLE LAYTON WHO IS THE third great-granddaughter of Edward John Layton who founded a prominent LEGAL firm under the same name in 1875, which remained within her family for four generations, and which still operates today.
UNDER the MANAGEMENT of EDWARD JOHN LAYTON from 1875, and later his sons charles stubbs layton and edward john stubbs layton, hannah’s second great-grandfather, they practised at 29 budge row. hannah’s great-grandfather hugh layton managed the firm at 29 budge row until the office was bombed in the blitz in 1941, and the office moved to kensington.
at the end of world war || in 1945, the firm moved offices to 22 chancery lane, and then shortly afterwards to 21 old building’s, lincoln’S inn - ONE OF THE FOUR BARRISTERS INNS OF COURT.
in 1950, her GRANDFATHER PETER CARDEN LAYTON took over management of the firm.
IN FOUNDING CHAMBERS, HANNAH LAYTON WAS REQUIRED TO reacquire HER NAME, WHICH HAD BEEN TRADEMARKED BY THE FIRM FOR LEGAL SERVICES SINCE 1998, BACK FROM THE FIRM OPERATING TODAY. HANNAH CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THat FIRM TODAY.
by founding LAYTONS chambers, hannah will be the fifth generation of her family to manage A layton family legal practice, and continue the legacy.
